His work with Jeff Buckley and Captain Beefheart probably makes Gary Lucas the worlds most popular avant-rock guitarist, though his solo work can lack focus. Here, his solo pieces mingle with tracks recorded with electronic composer James R Hunter, aka The Dark Poets, whose samplescapes, synth beds and vocal samples about things like military mind-control techniques recall the dark portents of Cabaret Voltaire. Highlights include a resonant cover of part of Popol Vuhs Aguirre, Wrath of God soundtrack; an exhilarating "Judgement at Midnight" incorporating swirling National steel guitar phrases over a synth drone bed pockmarked with found-sound fragments; "Breath of Bones", a delicate tangle of guitar tendrils; and "Teds Theme", a lovely sequenced samba-shuffle burnished with glinting guitar. Solo showcases include the glistening Frippertronic-style guitar tones of "Rosemarys Baby" and the almost electric-flamenco flurries of "Rise Up To Be".

History of the Future...

Some Bizzare Records is a British independent record label founded by Stevø. Beginning as a DJ in London, He launched the label in 1981 with the groundbreaking LP entitled "Some Bizzare Album" which included such acts as: Soft Cell, Blancmange, Depeche Mode, B.Movie, and The The.

Some Bizzare Records has introduced the public to some of the most interesting, cutting edge and innovative music. Early bands included B-Movie, The The and Soft Cell. Followed shortly by the signing of Cabaret Voltaire and Psychic TV, Test Department, Einstürzende Neubauten, Coil, Swans, and Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel. In October 2006, "Redefining the Prologue" was released on Some Bizzare Universal to mark the label's 25th anniversary. This compilation album was designed to blend the History with the Future- intertwining tracks recorded in the 80’s with those of the 21st century.

Now we find ourselves at the dawn of a new era. 2008 heralds the release of a 37 track double album filled with all new artists along with the long awaited re-release of the 1981 "Some Bizzare Album". In the creation of the double album entitled: "The Only Failure is to Cease to Try", Some Bizzare set out to explore the vast, untapped creative potential of MySpace, through this virtual frontier with the intent of unearthing acts that may have otherwise escaped notice.

The Grid are Dave Ball and Richard Norris. They formed in 1988 at the height of Acid House, releasing as their first single, the Balearic classic 'Floatation', in 1990, before notching up a string of increasingly successful albums -'Electric Head', '456', 'Evolver', 'Music For Dancing' - and ten hit singles, including 'Crystal Clear, 'Rollercoaster' 'Texas Cowboys' and the million selling 'Swamp Thing'. The band toured worldwide and remixed and produced numerous artists including Brian Eno, Pet Shop Boys, Happy Mondays and many more. After a break in the nineties, the Grid reformed in 2004, playing their first gig in a decade in 2006 at the Coronet in London. "DOPPELGANGER" is their first album since 1995, and features the trademark Grid sound -sweeping, atmospheric electronics and hook laden melodies, fast forwarding into the future. A welcome return.

KINKY ELECTRO AND QUIRKY POP FROM VIBRANT FRENCH/WELSH DUO

Oozing sensuality and provocative energy, Risqué emerge from the erotic underworld with their Pedro Almodovar inspired debut album, Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, on the revered Some Bizarre label.

Risqué – French vixen Nathalie and her Welsh husband Huw – combine their lavish soundscapes with a series of incredible collaborations from the likes of dance pop diva Billie Ray Martin and New York City’s legendary transsexual sexbomb and muse of David LaChapelle, Amanda Lepore.

The album’s title track, Tie Me Up Tie Me Down showcases Nathalie’s ethereal vocals (in French and English) astride classic electro rhythms while Push The Button with Billie Ray Martin is a rock n’ synth pop anthem in the making.

I Want Your Number is a futuristic combination of pure dancefloor energy and the confused mathematics of love: ‘6% pneumatic 60% politic 20% chemistry, 90% destiny’ coos Nathalie.

“This track wasn’t written for Marilyn, it was written for me!” says Amanda Lepore, of Marilyn, the track she guests on. An ode to the celebrity culture of chasing money, youth and ‘VIP utopia’ with echoes of the Pet Shop Boys, it’s a guaranteed hit.

Elsewhere, Risqué give their unique take on Talking Heads’ Psychokiller and Velvet Underground’s S&M anthem Venus In Furs. With provocative tracks like Plastic Lover and Deshabille Toi, rounding up an accomplished debut album, listening is a seductive and sensual experience..

Pedro INF is an alterego of Pedro Granja De Carvalho, a musician whose main style can be categorized as IDM, braindance, or experimental electronic music. He began recording at the end of the 1980s when he was a member of the industrial Portuguese band from 1989-1994 named Ode Filipica.

Pedro INF was using early computers for music, around
1986 he was using a Timex Sinclair computer. Today, Pedro INF is using a range of vintage recording equipment and analog synthesizers, electronic percussion and drum machines, avoiding the use of computers where circuit bending is the rule. In 2007 Pedro INF signed to Some Bizzare Records. His first album was released by Some Bizzare Records SBZ 079CD "pedro inf." The label boss, Stevo Pearce (ex-manager of Soft Cell) also included a Pedro INF track, "The Strategy Of The Spider in The Wire," on the new "Some Bizzare Double Album" to be released on 2008. Stevo Pearce is credited as executive producer of the album.

Crawling out of the same noisy, arty New York underground that sired SONIC YOUTH and LYDIA LUNCH, Swans created a dark, abrasive, murky, slowed-down noise rock that served as a starting point for their ruminations about alienation, depression, depravity, and the disturbing side of human nature. Singers Michael Gira and Jarboe have been the group's only constants over the years; Gira has taken the group from its early confrontational shock tactics to a more varied, mature attack. The band first appeared on record in 1982 with a self-titled EP, and these early releases document their search for the musical vocabulary to express their ideas effectively. Female singer Jarboe joined the group for 1986's Holy Money and brought a gentler, more relaxed dimension to Swans' sound.

The MFF vs Evil Dead

Monkey Farm Frankenstein is a pair of young horror-obsessed malcontents who write, perform, engineer, record, program, edit, produce, mix, and master their own unique style of industrial hip hop music. Gathering samples in the dark and rainy streets of Portland, Oregon, they construct their subhuman breakbeat monster from unearthed pieces of cult horror films and dead LPs, dusty stacks of videotapes and aging analog synthesizers. The MFF invoke the hip hop influences in early Skinny Puppy and Ministry records, combining the sampledelic breakbeat sound of The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers with the funky chaos of Meat Beat Manifesto and Public Enemy. Monkey Farm Frankenstein dominate their machines, not the other way around, infusing every track with meanace and humor. Like the best horror films, the MFF balances their dark and aggressive nature with a sense of black comedy that lightens the tone and brings an audience into the fun. Combined with the pop-song structure of their songwriting, the MFF is both edgy and accessible.

David Hunt aka Kontour is an English artist who has already been active for more than 20 years now. He for sure is a musician who remains faithful to a sort of early electronic tradition reminding me of the 80s. More than once “Scanners” evokes some early and good old Cabaret Voltaire memories. Especially the 2 debut songs are really cool and essential. There’s this brute electronic construction made with instruments like a Moog or MXR effect processor. It creates these typical electronic vibes while the good-old rhythm box percussion sound only reinforce the 80s feeling. The male vocal parts are pretty zombie-like, but totally fitting in to the music. “The Kennedy Syndrome” and “Loose Wire” are definitely strong openers. I’m not affirming that after such a great debut the album slowly stagnates, but it’s just that the other tracks left are less convincing. “Pressure Point” is a track that brings the album again to a higher level. Kontour also reveals a more experimental side, which brings some diversity, but less new high lights. It doesn’t take away that this album will for sure please the lovers of early Cabaret Voltaire and other bands in the same line.

Marc Almond initially shot to fame in the early 1980s as one half of synth duo Soft Cell, whose combination of drama and peep show sleaze set to an electronic beat gave them hits such as "Tainted Love" (UK #1), "Bedsitter" (UK #3), "Torch" (UK #2), "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" (UK #3), "Soul Inside" (UK # 16), "What?" (UK #3) and the club hit "Memorabilia". Almond also went on to be a highly succesful solo artist and now his these classic albums are available again, re-issued on Some Bizarre.

In an age when terms like "alternative" and "independent" get bandied about corporate boardrooms as mere mass-market packaging slogans, it takes an artist as rare as Jim Thirlwell (FOETUS) to inject some meaning into what is so casually labeled "the underground." With his history of relentless aesthetic terrorism and committed cultural subversion, Thirlwell is one of the most independent thinkers on the music scene today, a much-needed alternative to "alternative rock" itself. Linking up with Some Bizarre in the early eighties Thirwell adopted the “Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel” moniker for the release of two of his most well know early albums “Hole” and “Nail” in ‘84 & ‘85 respectively (already re-issued by SOME BIZARRE this year!). Later adopting “FOETUS INTERRUPTUS” for the “THAW album in 1988 and “FOETUS INC.” for the “”SINK” album (collecting together rare and compilation/collaboration tracks). With a collision of electronics, tape loops and harsh beats and vocals Foetus’ albums helped define the underground industrial scene in London throughout the eighties and has remained (if indirectly) a large influence on the scenes development. With lovingly restored artwork under direct supervision from Thirwell himself these two albums are now available in deluxe digi packs which do the original LP’s artwork justice like no CD issue has ever done.
